Pierre-Luc Gagnon Leads Dew Cup Points Race over Shaun White and Bucky Lasek
Salt Lake City, Ut. – Sept. 10, 2011 – Pierre-Luc Gagnon landed a flawless run to gain the Skate Vert win in front of a high-energy Salt Lake City crowd at the Toyota Challenge. PLG brushed off the pressure of going up against a possible new trick from Shaun White by landing a run that included a kickflip body varial 540, a 720 McTwist and a switch frontside air 360 to earn a Super Final top score of 94.00. Shaun White came in second with an 89.75 and Bucky Lasek finished third with an 87.75.
“It feels great to finally win,” said PLG following his first place finish. “It’s been a minute. I got second place so many times in the past year and I was getting pretty frustrated. I knew that this run could win if I did it. If you bring something new, then the judges will reward you. And that’s what I did today.”
PLG, White and Lasek shuffled their previous podium finishes from the Dew Tour’s Skate Vert Final in Ocean City, Md. With a second place finish in Ocean City and today’s win, PLG will head to the Dew Tour Championships in Las Vegas as the front runner for the Dew Cup. Looking ahead to next month’s championship contest, PLG acknowledged his first place spot in the overall rankings. “I’m feeling great,” he said. “I’m just going to keep it going and try to skate even better than I did today.” Lasek and White follow closely behind in the rankings with only 18 points separating the three, making for an exciting run for the Championships, which will take place October 13-16.
